Description

This is an instructional video that I created for selected teachers on how to add students to groups in Moodle 2.3, the web-based Learning Management System (LMS) used for selected MCPS online high school courses. I created two similar videos for two different courses. This video was for one of the courses. The groups set-up was different for the two courses, so that necessitated customized videos for the courses.

I created the video with Adobe Captivate on a Windows machine and used a unidirectional condenser microphone for recording the audio. I chose the video dimensions based on minimum screen resolution found in MCPS and a good enough size to see details while using modern HD monitors; 1024 x 576 seemed fine. During the editing process, I added a few effects such as pan, zoom, and highlights. The final output included this video and a Flash video with closed captions; the MP4 video above does not have closed captions.

I also created another video for each course to show what the course looked like to students when not placed in a group. The set-up of both courses required teachers to place every student in a group. That other video served as a reminder to teachers about what happens when students are not in groups and cannot see selected course content. I won’t post those videos because the instructional video above was more important.
